Costs & quotes
How much does a wet room cost in Teesside?
Full installations £5,500 to £11,000; walk-in showers £2,500 to £5,500; mobility wet rooms £4,000 to £8,000; small-room conversions £4,500 to £8,000; repairs £800 to £2,500; design from £250.
Why do two quotes for the same wet room differ by £2,000?
Specification: the tanking system, floor former, drainage route, tile quality and day rates. Compare the itemised lines and the gap explains itself.
Is the quote really free?
Yes: site visit, assessment and written itemised quote, no charge and no pressure.
Do quotes include stripping out and waste disposal?
Ours always do, licensed disposal as a visible line including the skip. A quote without a waste line meets that cost later, with interest.
Projects & timing
How long does a wet room installation take?
Five to eight working days for a standard conversion: strip-out, floor former, tanking with cure time, tiling, second fix. The cure times are not compressible.
Will the toilet stay working during the project?
Almost always, yes: the WC is the last thing out and first thing back each day. Single-bathroom houses are planned around keeping a usable toilet overnight.
Do I need to buy the tiles and fittings myself?
Either way works: supply-only fitting, full supply-and-fit at trade prices, or a mix. The quote shows supply and labour as separate lines so you can compare.
Can work be phased?
Yes: wet room first, en-suite later, or wet works then finishing. Phased costing is standard practice.
Leaks, floors & Teesside specifics
Will a wet room leak?
Not if it is tanked properly: full membrane, sealed corners and penetrations, and the floor fall water-tested before tiling. The quote should name the tanking system.
My bathroom is above the kitchen. Does that matter?
Yes: it raises the stakes on waterproofing, so named tanking, sealed penetrations and a flood test before tiling are non-negotiable.
Can a timber first floor take a wet room?
Yes: pre-sloped former decks on timber are standard practice across Teesside's terraces and semis, with joists checked at survey.
What about coastal properties in Redcar and Saltburn?
Salt air pits cheap chrome fast. Coastal quotes specify corrosion-resistant finishes and upgraded extraction as standard.
